Ed Panar - Animals that saw me Volume two
In Animals That Saw Me: Volume Two, a new collection of photographs born from Ed Panar’s observational strolls is combined with an essay by philosopher Timothy Morton on the concept of "being seen." This "sequel" expands on the project that began with Animals That Saw Me: Volume One, published in 2011, incorporating both recent works and new gems unearthed from Panar’s extensive back catalog. The book captures moments when animals—including mammals, reptiles, birds, and insects—lock eyes with the human photographer.
Curated to offer maximum enjoyment, the photos are humorous yet unexpectedly layered with complex meaning beneath the surface. Questions arise, such as “Why do we distinguish between ‘us’ and ‘them’?” “What exists in the space between that distinction?” “What does it mean to make eye contact with another species?” and “How does the presence of a camera influence this phenomenon?” While Panar’s first volume quickly gained popularity for its thoughtful humor and enigmatic perspective, this sequel delves deeper, exploring the question, “Why do we assume that only we are the ones doing the looking?”
