Søren Solkær - Starling
Starling is the latest work by Søren Solkær, following his bestselling photo collection Black Sun, and marks a return to the landscapes of his native southern Denmark. This book continues Solkær's photographic exploration, focusing on the migration of starlings from Ireland to Denmark, along the Dutch Wadden Sea coast, and as far as Sardinia and Rome in Italy. Not only has Solkær captured the mesmerizing flight formations of these birds, but he has also created two new photographic series that highlight starling feathers as seen through a microscope.
Inspired by Japanese calligraphy and woodblock prints, Solkær has crafted graphic works centered on landscapes and vast starling flocks. These flocks move as if they were a single organism, fiercely repelling predators. Their graphical and organic formations exhibit a rich array of expressions, ranging from meditative tranquility to the intense dynamism of a life-or-death ballet.
